So, You Want to Learn Spanish...

Spanish is one of the most useful languages you can learn, as it’s spoken by almost half a BILLION people worldwide.

Because most of modern Spanish is rooted in Latin, there is quite a lot of overlap or similarity in vocabulary between English and Spanish. That makes it one of the easier languages for native English speakers to learn to speak.

As with most languages spoken across the globe, the spoken language has distinct dialects unique to each region. But learning any dialect will serve you enough to get by in conversation with another Spanish speaker.

Don’t Get Stressed Out About Vocabulary

As we mentioned earlier, many words in English correspond closely to their Spanish counterparts. It's surprisingly easy to pronounce unfamiliar words with a Spanish accent and be perfectly correct. Moreover, Spanish speakers are generally very forgiving. So if you’re struggling to find a word you need, it’s okay to try the English word with a Spanish accent or ending.

Spanish Does Have Gendered Nouns

Like French, Spanish nouns are either masculine or feminine. Luckily, in Spanish, it’s easier to figure out which gender a word should have. Almost all Spanish nouns ending in -o are masculine. It’s not a guarantee, but if you’re guessing it’s a helpful shortcut!

How Fast Can You Learn Spanish?

Well, that depends. One source, the US Government’s Foreign Service Institute, estimates that it takes 600 hours in a classroom setting to achieve a general professional proficiency. (You can learn more about how long it takes to learn new languages by clicking here.) For most people that would take years to achieve! But, with our Guided Immersion system, you can learn Spanish in hours, not years!
